Tackling water leakage in the UK water industry
August 1, 2025
In the water industry, safety, health and environmental awareness are paramount. To ensure all personnel meet these standards, the Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Water scheme provides essential training for individuals working on operational sites within the water sector.
What is SHEA Water?
SHEA Water is a mandatory training course developed in collaboration with industry experts to provide a uniform approach to health, safety and environmental awareness across the utilities sector. It is designed for individuals at all levels – including operatives, supervisors and management – who require access to operational sites in the water industry.
Successful completion of training and assessment leads to registration on the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR), providing individuals with a SHEA Water Passport Card, which is valid for three years.
Why is SHEA Water Important?
The SHEA Water scheme ensures that all personnel working in the water industry are equipped with the knowledge and awareness necessary to maintain a safe and compliant working environment. It helps reduce the risks associated with workplace hazards, environmental impacts and occupational health issues. Additionally, holding a valid SHEA Water Passport Card is often a requirement for accessing operational sites within the water sector.
Watertrain’s SHEA Water Course
To support professionals in obtaining their SHEA Water certification, Watertrain offers a comprehensive SHEA Water course that covers the scheme. Our course is delivered by experienced trainers and includes both theoretical and practical components to ensure a thorough understanding of the material.
Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible for their SHEA Water Passport Card, enabling them to access operational sites across the UK water network.
