Skills Progression: A Strategic ImperativeJanuary 18, 2024
With 2024 just around the corner, we are looking back on some of our achievements at Watertrain over the past year.
It has been another exciting year at Watertrain, and we are proud to have continued to grow as an organisation in 2023 and maintain our position as a leading provider of apprenticeships and technical training in the water industry.
In this blog, we are reviewing some of our favourite achievements from the past year:
Level 4 Asset Manager Apprenticeship
We were the first training provider able to deliver the new Level 4 Asset Manager apprenticeship. The addition of this apprenticeship to our portfolio has enabled us to continue to provide new, industry-relevant, and levy-funded opportunities for new knowledge and skills.
Thames Water became the first water company to benefit from this new industry-developed apprenticeship with their cohort about to enter End Point Assessment. There has been interest in this Level 4 from many sectors, so our first Open Cohort is due to start in early 2024.
Level 2 Water Network Operative Apprenticeship
Our first level 2 network programmes came to an end with all learners achieving the required standard, many of whom achieved distinctions. Following these results, a new cohort of learners with OnSite started their apprenticeship with Watertrain in September 2023. In addition to this, United Living are helping to develop the talent of the future and have recruited 11 young people that will be starting the programme in the new year.
Built strong relationships with our clients
Throughout 2023, we have continued to build on our great relationship with Veolia Water by delivering the Level 3 Diploma in Wastewater Treatment.
We have successfully delivered further Level 4 programmes to a range of learners within Affinity Water.
We are supporting Southern Water’s training needs and efforts to enhance their wastewater operations through the successful delivery of the Level 3 Diploma and specialist short courses.
Raised money for charity and bonded as a team
Earlier in the year, our team, along with staff from RSK, took part in the ‘It’s a knockout’ charity event at Birchwood Park, Warrington.
RSK Group businesses
Following our acquisition by RSK, we are delighted to have worked in collaboration with businesses across the group. Projects included developing an e-Learning solution for Binnies to deliver within Southern Water. We have also worked alongside Binnies to develop our Asset Manager programme.
Helped businesses understand their potential skills gaps through our Occupational Competency Gateway platform
Our system for measuring workforce competency, OCG, has provided a clear picture of the current knowledge and competence of individuals in their actual roles.
Welcoming new members to our growing team
Watertrain is investing in growing our delivery team and strengthening our management team. We are well placed to respond to the demand we are seeing in the water sector and are excited by the emerging opportunities from within the RSK Group.
We would also like to welcome back our Managing Director, Keri Davies, from maternity leave.
“It has been good coming back from maternity to see it has been a successful year for Watertrain. Our first Level 2 Network programme has come to an end with all learners achieving, many with Distinctions. We have seen 85 apprentices achieve this year and watch them start what will hopefully be a long and successful career in the water industry. We have enrolled 133 learners on apprenticeship programmes this year and are excited to support some new clients in rolling out their training programmes. Our pilot Asset Manager programme is coming to an end, and it has exceeded all expectations, so we are excited to roll this out much wider in 2024. Having recently expanded our team to add a Business Development Manager, 2024 is already looking like it will be a busy and exciting year!”
See you all in 2024!
