Mental Health Awareness Week: Promoting wellbeing in the workplace
May 13, 2024The mandate of the Network Construction Operations qualification will take effect by April 2025. Watertrain, the UK’s leading provider of apprenticeships and technical training to the water industry, shares how contractors can be prepared.
The transition to making the Level 2 Network Construction Operations qualification a mandatory requirement marks a significant step forward in setting a level playing field in both water companies and contractors.
What is the NCO requirement?
Ofwat requires a commitment from all operatives working on developer services to complete a Level 2 Network Construction Operations qualification by April 2025. Previously only a recommended requirement, the scheme provides water companies and asset owners with the assurance that contractors completing work on the water network have the appropriate level of competence.
The change to making the NCO Water Scheme mandatory from April 2025 is a reflection of the water industry’s commitment to both maintaining and elevating the standards of workmanship, safety, and environmental protection across all water network construction projects. Through standardising competency, the water industry is laying the foundation for a future where the integrity and reliability of water networks are assured.
Preparing for a Mandatory Future
Watertrain urges that now is the time for contractors to assess their qualification and training needs to ensure that they comply with the new requirements before it takes effect. If your company is unsure of its needs and the right route it should take, it is important to engage with a reputable training provider.
Watertrain offer the following nationally accredited qualifications:
- Level 2 Certificate in Network Construction Operative – Service Layer
- Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operative – Main Layer
- Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operative – Repair & Maintenance Layer
These are the only nationally accredited qualifications for the water industry. They are a mandatory requirement for those wishing to be registered on the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS)
Watertrain has extensive experience in delivering specialist water industry training. Subsequently, it has been the leading provider of apprenticeships and technical training to the water industry and its supply chain since 2005.
By partnering with Watertrain, your company can ensure a smooth transition to the mandatory scheme, as well as training that is role, employer and industry-relevant and aligned to the latest standards and best practices.
