Skills Progression: A Strategic ImperativeJanuary 18, 2024

Marc Southam of Portsmouth Water completed his Level 3 Water Network Distribution apprenticeship with Watertrain. Marc successfully achieved his End Point Assessment and progressed onto complete his Level 3 Diploma in Water Network Distribution. Marc achieved fantastic results including a 90% Distinction grade for his portfolio and an overall Distinction grade for his apprenticeship standard. Since completing his qualification, Marc has been promoted in his role at Portsmouth Water.
“Since completing the qualification Connor, Tom and I were promoted from Level 3 Smart Network Technicians to Level 4 Network Improvement Analysts. More recently, Tom and I were promoted again to Level 6 Team Leads in Smart Networks and Leakage. In my opinion, your teaching, and the qualification itself, have given us the skills to succeed in these roles as well as making us viable candidates for the jobs in the first place.
I feel that Tom would agree with me in saying that the course has been very useful, especially now that we deal with other aspects of the company on a regular basis. We can talk to Production or Customer Services with confidence now that we have a better understanding of their area of the business. We can deal with problematic customers and resolve their issues, while keeping the company’s CMEX score as a priority.
The regulations section has been helpful for ensuring the technicians that report to us are following the regulations correctly. Finally, Tom and I sit in higher levels meetings where we need to get our point across concisely and I feel that the presentation skills section that you delivered has helped our confidence and delivery in these situations.
Thanks again Fergie for helping us through the course and we look forward to seeing you back at Portsmouth Water again soon.”
