Historically, this type of qualification was referred to as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and as the name suggests it is all about assessing an individual’s competency against a national standard.
A Watertrain assessor will visit each candidate in their workplace and spend a series of scheduled half days of quality time; mentoring, coaching and supporting their progress through the qualification.
Formal assessments against the qualification criteria will be carried out once the candidate is operating at the right level to achieve each unit of the qualification.
If the candidate is on an apprenticeship programme, then the competency assessment element will start after a number of the knowledge elements have been delivered. The candidate needs the opportunity to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice before being assessed.
